You have three realistic paths for replacing a Norcold 1200LRIM in a 2001 Monaco Dynasty. Measure your opening first; all of them depend on it.
1. Keep the Norcold, replace the cooling unit (best fit, least carpentry). If the cabinet, doors and controls are in good shape and the cooling unit has failed, the Nordic Cooling Unit 6610 (replaced 634747/634746) fits all Norcold 1200 and 1210 models regardless of serial number. The cabinet stays where it is over the furnace, so there's no trimming, no change to the opening and no gas line work. Plan on 3–5 hours. Note that it takes the newer 45° bend AC heater.
2. Convert to a 12V compressor refrigerator. This is the most popular upgrade: no flame and no roof-vent heat, and it cools faster. For reference, the Norcold 1200 is roughly 32-11/16" W x 24" D x 63-1/4" H. Most 12V French-door fridges are taller and deeper. For example, the Furrion Everchill 2024016838 is listed at about 28-1/2" W x 30" D x 69-3/4" H, so it needs filler strips on the sides and more height and depth than the 1200 opening. With the furnace directly under the fridge you usually can't drop the floor, so height is the deciding measurement. You can often gain space above by removing the trim or a cabinet face over the fridge.
3. Things to plan for with the furnace below:
- Have a qualified tech cap the LP line at the fridge if you go to 12V.
- Keep the existing lower and upper (roof) vents open. A compressor fridge still has to shed heat out the back.
- Make sure the fridge's weight sits on the floor rails or a platform, not on the furnace or its ductwork.
- Check that your batteries and charging (alternator, solar, converter) can support a 12V fridge when you're not on shore power.
Measure the opening's width, height and depth to the back wall, then compare those numbers with the specs listed on each refrigerator's product page before you choose.
