Probably not, if the compressor is running. The Norcold 640178 / 50907 control module / power board is what tells the compressor to run, so a running compressor usually means the board is doing its main job. When both the freezer and fridge stop cooling with the compressor running, the cause is usually one of these, roughly in order:
- Condenser fan or airflow at the back: if the fan on the back (outside vent side) isn't spinning, or the coils and vents are blocked, the system can't get rid of heat and cooling drops off badly.
- Heavy frost on the evaporator: a solid ice block blocks airflow. Turn the fridge off and defrost fully with the doors open for 12–24 hours, then test again.
- Low voltage at the compressor: undersized wiring or weak batteries can let the compressor hum without pumping properly. Measure 12V at the fridge while it's running; it should stay above about 12V.
- Interior fan (fridge side only): if the freezer is cold but the fridge is warm, check the interior fan. On the N8DC/N10DC that's the 640093 evaporator fan.
- Sealed system: if the compressor runs, the condenser fan works, there's no ice block, and the evaporator never gets cold, the refrigerant has likely leaked or the system is restricted. A new board won't fix that.
The 640178 is the right fix when the fridge isn't powering on, won't reset, shows SR codes, cuts in and out, or has burn marks on the board. It fits the N8DC, N10DC, N15DC, N2152, N2090 and N2175, and the N20DC with serial numbers below SE185ACDW01540086.
