Good detective work. Some burner noise is normal on the 2118, but a loud blow torch sound usually means the flame is getting too much gas or the wrong air mix. The most common cause is LP pressure that's too high, so have the regulator checked (it should be 11" water column). An incorrect orifice or burner tube from past maintenance is also possible. I can't confirm the correct stamping or port count for the 2118 from here. Unfortunately, the 638144 burner assembly has been discontinued. Our tech support service can help you check it further.
