The N4104 needs 12V DC connected to power its control board, even when you're running on 120V AC. Without 12V DC it won't turn on at all. Connect the 12V DC leads (with the right polarity) to your RV's 12V system, then turn it on, and it will run on 120V when shore power is available. The installation manual shows the wiring. The N4104 has since been discontinued by Norcold. The current model is the Norcold N4150.
