That usually means the converter is putting out bad DC, either too high a voltage or too much AC ripple, and the fridge's board shuts down to protect itself. With the converter on, measure the DC voltage at the fridge. Anything much over about 14.5V is a red flag. Also check the ground connection between the fridge and the chassis. An aging converter is a common cause.
